How Plastcom optimized production and reduced costs with PM TOOLKIT

Plastcom faced a challenge in the area of ​​production efficiency and production quality monitoring. By implementing PM TOOLKIT software, they were able to optimize processes, increase productivity and improve quality through digitalization and automation, with a very fast return on investment.

Plastcom – a leader in the field of thermoplastic injection molding

Plastcom, spol. s r.o., specializes in the development, production, recycling and application of structural plastics for injection molding based on thermoplastics. It also offers technical support and production of technical moldings from thermoplastics by injection molding. Their products are widely used in the automotive, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and consumer industries.

Plastcom operates under an established Quality Management System that meets the requirements of international standards ISO 9001:2015, IATF 16949 and ISO 14001:2015. The company’s goal is to continuously improve this system, thereby securing a stronger position on the market. PM TOOLKIT implementation progress

  • We implemented the PM TOOLKIT software in 2012 at the Plastic Molding Plant.
  • The implementation took place gradually, starting with the connection of 8 ARBURG injection molding machines.
  • The basis of the delivery was the calculation of OEE for individual devices and a management approach, including monitoring of sorting time and the performance of individual sorters.
  • The delivery included visualization of the production process using two visualization units, the so-called hourly production stability.
  • We then implemented a link between manual quality data entry using buttons integrated on each machine and digital converters. This allows quality engineers to easily enter information about defects by pressing a button with a specific defect type.
  • The implementation of PM TOOLKIT resulted in a very rapid return on investment, primarily due to increased production efficiency and continuous equipment monitoring.

Plastcom’s uniqueness – Module for monitoring production energy consumption

Based on the company’s initiative, we developed the PMT module “Energy Demand”, which allows you to evaluate energy consumption.

PM TOOLKIT integration with SPOT prices at the time of production provides managers with an analytical overview of energy costs. This overview can be provided down to the level of an individual product produced.

Current status of PM TOOLKIT implementation at Plastcom

  • There are currently 12 production lines and one LCD visualization connected to PM TOOLKIT.
  • Plastcom successfully uses the Autonomous Maintenance module, which allows for efficient management of the process of autonomous maintenance by operators. This module also includes software modification for managing planned machine maintenance.
  • The output quality control process is digitized in PM TOOLKIT in a specifically designed “Output Quality” module. This module includes standardized execution of product inspection, repairs (reworks) and logistics support for the overview of excess production, shortages or non-conforming products.

The company is currently testing a new PM TOOLKIT functionality – “Cavity Losses”.
